10,000 - 40,000 cash up-front for both tourists and Non-Immigrants Old ministry regulation goes into effect on Oct 1, 2004
BANGKOK: From October 1, 2004, Thai Immigration will enforce an old regulation from October 2000, that requires border runners to show evidence of cash upon re-entry to Thailand. The "new" regulations are:
- 30 days "on arrival" entry ´walkers´: 10,000 Baht (family 20,000 Baht)
- 60 days Tourist visa holders: 20,000 Baht (family 40,000 Baht)
- 90 days Non-Immigrant visa holders: 20,000 Baht (family 40,000 Baht)
According to Section 14 of the Immigration Act, this declaration is not valid for children under the age of 12.
Only cash counts. Credit cards, bank books, bank statements. ATM receipts, cashiers checks etc. are not considered valid evidence of cash.
Foreigners are concerned about bringing large amount of cash over the border and back.
