A German tourist staying at the Marriot Hotel in Pattaya who had overstayed his visa by one month was arrested by Pattaya police for none payment of his hotel bill on Saturday.
Pattaya 12th June 2010 [PDN] At 00.30 am the tourist police received a report by Mr. Soontorn Changnong, [33], the security manager of the Marriot Hotel Pattaya, that a German tourist staying at the hotel since the 8th June, had a bill totalling approximately 47,500 baht which included costs for several amenities that he had been taking advantage of whilst staying at the hotel.
A Tourist Police team led by Lieutenant Colonel Aroon Prompan, met with Mr. Roland Hofmann [37] and found that he had over stayed his visa in addition to the non-payment of his hotel bill.
Mr. Hofmann was taken to the tourist police station for questioning. According to his passport, he had arrived Thailand on the 11th April 2010 and was due to leave the country on the 10 May 2010.
Mr. Hofmann who claimed himself as an engineer said, he had met a Thai woman and had over spent during his time with her and that she had now left him since he has run out of money. However Mr. Hofmann explained that he had been asking his family to send money to him but he hadn’t received any response from them as yet.
The hotel staff said when they requested payment from Mr. Hofmann, he simply answered that he did not have money which left no other choice for the management except to report the situation to the police.
Apparently, Mr. Hofmann will face the justice system for his over stay, but the hotel cost would be negotiated with the hotel management
