JAN DARA: Trailer is ‘too sexy’
Published on Sep 21, 2001
“Jan Dara”, an erotic Thai movie scheduled to debut next Friday, has drawn much criticism for its trailers, which are showing regularly in cinemas and on television.
The Office of the National Culture Commission (ONCC) and some female MPs consider the trailers inappropriate for a young audience. They say some of the scenes are provocative.
The ONCC yesterday sent a letter to the movie’s producers, Tai Entertainment Co, asking that it remove certain scenes from its TV ads, or otherwise push them to latenight timeslots, said Ladda Tangsuphachai, the director of the agency’s culture watch centre.
The agency believes the explicit scenes might have a negative effect on children and younger viewers, she said. During the past few weeks, trailers from the film by director Nonzee Nimibutr have been shown in Bangkok cinemas, and some scenes have appeared on TV entertainment programmes. One scene shows the leading actress with a bare chest and the leading actor rubbing her back with an ice cube.
House committee on children and women chairwoman Pimpa Chanprasong yesterday called a press conference to criticise the “Jan Dara” trailers featuring erotic scenes. She said a group of school students had yesterday seen the trailers while at a cinema to watch the epic “Suriyothai”.
The MP said her committee agreed to call on the relevant agencies to ensure no “inappropriate scenes” appeared in the trailers.
Tai Entertainment said it had not received any complaints about the movie from any authorities.
