The Airports Authority of Thailand will cut passenger and aircraft
service charges to boost tourism under the
Indonesian-Malaysian-Thailand Growth Triangle plan.
The authority´s governor ACM Therdsak Sajjarak said the board had
approved the cuts for one year.
The passenger service charge would be halved to 250 baht. Aircraft
landing and parking fees would also fall. Details had yet to be
finalised.
ACM Therdsak said the authority´s income dropped by 10% in October
after the Sept 11 terrorist attacks. Traffic volumes dropped markedly
for passengers from the US and Europe.
The authority grossed 941 million baht last month, resulting in a net
profit of 656 million baht.
In October, Don Muang airport served 2.3 million passengers, down by
8%; Chiang Mai airport 183,771, down by 3.4%; Hat Yai airport 67,256,
down by 12.3%; Phuket airport 259,889, down by 8.1%; and Chiang Rai
airport 44,788, down by 15.4%.
The board reshuffled executives on Wednesday. Deputy governor Bancha
Pattanaporn will supervise the authority´s privatisation and
investment in Nong Ngu Hao airport rather than planning and finance.
Deputy governor M.L. Yom Ngornrot becomes Don Muang airport director
in place of Flt Lt Pradit Mongkol-apiban, who becomes deputy governor
for administrative affairs.
Assistant governor Supatra Mesawan becomes deputy governor for
planning and finance and assistant governor Jitkamron Pansaeng becomes
deputy governor for development.
The board also appointed Somchet Tinapong as head of a sub-committee
supervising risk management.
