Auszug:

From the Nation leader ( 4 th May 2006 )
Thaksin, a telecom tycoon turned politician, led the Thai Rak Thai Party to a landslide victory in 2001, only three short years after it was established. The party's meteoric rise was made possible by a series of mergers, even straight buy-outs, of other political parties.
Unprincipled politicians of every ideological hue and stripe imaginable flocked to join the new party, hoping they could ride Thaksin's coattails to high political office and avail themselves of all sorts of opportunities to make a quick buck through influence-peddling.
Or failing that, these politicians would docilely fawn on and obey every whim of Thaksin, their political master, in exchange for generous handouts at his leisure. With virtually unlimited power of patronage, Thaksin was able to bypass conventional channels to dominate politics in such a very short time.
Kommentar von Teakdoor:

The above may be a coloured version of the facts but it is by no means inaccurate.
As a Prime Minister Taksin was arrogant in the extreme.[/highlight:29b6663432]
Einsichten:

Attempts to silence critics with defamation claims and straight intimidation of the news media became the norm.
Damit war das mass dann voll:

[uqote]

The final straw for many was at the end of 2005 and the sale by Taksin of his family telecommunications firm for nearly 2 billion dollars to the Singapore state. In order to facilitate this deal, parliament changed the foreign ownership rules for telecoms companies. The deal involved a dubious offshore company and the final insult was Taksin and his family apparently will pay no tax whatsoever on the sale.
die folgenden Wochen:

Now the anti Taksin factions were in uproar demanding that he resign. Elected less than a year ago, and with a vast majority in parliament there was no need for Taksin to even blink. However the protests got louder and eventually drove the Prime Minister from working at his office. More people joined the protests and even some marginal TRT people deserted him. So Taksin blinked and called a snap election in 30 days. The street opposition, combined with all parliamentary opposition parties and now called PAD, would not play. One of the problems was that under the new constitution, in order to run as a parliamentary candidate the person must have been a member of that political party for at least 90 days. The snap election stopped disgruntled TRT members moving. PAD boycotted the election. The reason for this was, under the new constitution, if a parliamentary candidate received less than 20percent of the votes in an uncontested election, they can not be elected and in order for parliament to convene it needs a full quorum of 500 (400 elected and 100 party list). After the election some 40 odd seats were not filled because the single candidate had not received 20 percent of the votes and in Bangkok several TRT winners had been defeated by official abstentions. There were many issues relating to the election and the election commissions decisions that were questioned and challenged.
A further election three weeks later filled some of the vacant seats but still left a few seats empty. A final attempt to fill these seats by an election six days later was blocked by the courts.
Shortly after the April 2 nd . election Taksin tearfully told the country he would step down and not be the next Prime Minister.[/highlight:29b6663432]

Möglicherweise gehen sie aber nicht rein, sondern zerstören nur die Sperren, schalten draussen die Kämpfer aus und isolieren das Camp total.

10:42am: Exiled ex-PM Thaksin said on Wednesday he fears a crackdown on anti-government protesters could lead to guerrilla warfare across the country. "There is a theory saying a military crackdown can spread resentment and these resentful people will become guerrillas," Thaksin told Reuters in a telephone interview, declining to say where he was.

20 armed men in black captured by soldiers, Arisman believed fleeing

The secutiry forces on Wednesday's morning captured 20 armed men in black fighting at Sarasin Junctuion. The men are being detained at Kian Kwuan building on Wireless Road.

After the forces advanced through the reds barricades at Saladaeng, the next flashpoint is Sarasin Junction where the reds set up a defence line to protect the Rajprasong rally site.

As of 11 am, the Sarasin skirmish is still raging on.

Red-shirt leaders at Rajprasong were seen holding a closed-door meeting in the face of advancing security forces. One of the hardcore leaders, Arisman Pongruangrong, has reportedly been trying to flee the rally site. The security forces have been alerted to arrest him as his escape route might be via Pratunam.

Chief coalition whip Witthaya Buranasiri is reportedly in contacts with the red-shirt leaders. One option is the arrangement for the leaders to surrender in order to avoid the loss of life.
