Police taking care of Kamnan Poh

Posted on February 26, 2013 by Lek
    From Manager, February 7, 2013

Caption: This is just a rehearsal of the correctional officers.
Correctional officer: Learn how to nurture Sir Poh well… When it’s time to nurture Sir Thaksin, our service must be 100% perfect.
[Reference is to Somchai Khunpluem, or Kamnan Poh, a regional kingpin who was arrested after years on the run. Critics believe he may enjoy special treatment while in prison for being an influential local politician of Cholburi province. His son, Sonthaya Khunpluem, is currently Cultural Minister. Here, the cartoonist ridicules the police who often seem more than willing to extend special treatment to influential people whoa re detained.]

Thaksin Afraid of Being Caught Like Kamnan Poh

Posted on March 1, 2013 by Thanit

    From Manager, February 6, 2013

Left: Servant: Master, the police officer from Thailand would like to meet you.
Thaksin: Probably, he wants me to help getting promoted. What’s his name?
Right: His name is Pol.Lt.Gen. Pongpat Chanyapan.
[Pol.Lt.Gen. Pongpat Chanyapan was credited for a capture of the fugitive Somchai Khunploem, alias Kamnan Poh, who was a fugitive from justice for years. In this cartoon former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra--who similarly fled a jail sentence--has lived in Dubai since 2008. The joke is Thaksin is afraid to be caught like Kamnan Poh after hearing the name of Pol.Lt.Gen. Pongpat.]

Back up the Red Buffalo Birth Canal!

Posted on March 5, 2013 by Lek

    From Manager, February 14, 2013

Jatu.... Promphan: Get in there fast… (If) it’s granted amnesty, so will we.

Caption: Way to survive for buffalo keepers

[Buffaloes is a derisive term for a person and here the red buffaloes represent the pro-Thaksin Red Shirts.
This cartoon refers to the amnesty act which the opposition maintains should cover only people who joined in protests without committing any criminal acts. This means the leaders of the protests (especially the April-May 2010 protest of the Red Shirts), Thaksin, and Democrat Party leaders would not be granted amnesty.
The prospect of Red and Yellow groups signing on to an amnesty like this has allegedly panicked Red Shirt leaders who put their fortunes and lives on the line leading protests with the assurance that Thaksin could afterwards gain a pardon for all involved.
In the cartoon the leaders attempt to make sure they are seen as simply innocent protesters like most of the Red Shirt followers and not those who goaded the crowds to violence.]

    Tearing Down the DSI

Posted on March 7, 2013 by Lek

    From February 19, 2013

Cartoon title: DSI under Tarit’s authority

[DSI stands for Department of Special Investigation. Tarit Pengdit is Director-General of of the department. Under the Pheu Thai government, Tarit has been criticized for using his power to serve the government. Many of the cases his department is working are not within his autonomy, for example the case between DSI and former prime minister and the Democrat Party's leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and former deputy prime minister Suthep Thuaksuban concerning the Red Shirt protest during April and mMy 2010. The latest one causing him his reputation is the construction project of 396 police stations nationwide. Again he has attempted to connect the case to the Pheu Thai arch-rival, the Democrat Party led by Abhisit and Suthep.
The building changing into a spirit house means changing from a respectful legal enforcing department to a mere nonsense spirit house that people cannot really rely on.]

Thaksin Hiding in the Birth Canal for Amnesty

Posted on March 22, 2013 by Lek

    From Manager, March 12, 2013
Man in front of buffalo: This buffalo didn’t do anything wrong. We should grant it amnesty fast.
Man behind buffalo: Don’t stick your head out, boss… They’d find out that you’re hiding in here!!!
    Caption: Stuffed buffalo
[Buffaloes is a derisive term to refer to someone and here the red buffaloes refer to the pro-Thaksin Red Shirts. Man hiding inside buffalo is Thaksin Shinawatra. Reference is to the Pheu Thai Party's multiple attempts to propose acts of amnesty. While the Pheu Thai claims doing that for the political prisoners, skeptics believe there is a hidden agenda intending to give pardon to Thaksin.]

    Pushing a new Shinawatra PM

Posted on March 26, 2013 by admin

    From Manager, March 18, 2013
Thaksin Shinawatra: Just help your sister out, Daeng… Look! Once you’re on her side, she looks much smarter, much better. ['Daeng' is nickname of Yaowapa Wongsawat, another sister of Thaksin Shinawatra.]
Sign around the neck of Yaowapa: Substitute prime minister
Caption: A scheme for Poo’s image make-up ['Poo' is nickname of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.]
[Reference is to Yaowapa's decision to run for a by-election in Chiang Mai following a resignation of a Pheu Thai MP. It is speculated that once elected, Yaowapa will be the next prime minister in case that Yingluck is disqualified in the case of the 30 million baht loan.]
